Spitfire Ref Sheet – 11-07-18

Hello MetaVerse fans!

(Were still working on a final name for our ‘verse 😉 )

This weeks reference sheet is Spitfire! As with the PrimeVerse, little is really known about her background, so we had to out our thinking caps on. Moreso will be elbaorated on in her wikipedia entry at a later date! Without further ado heres her bio blurb:

Despite an initial interest in the armed forces of the Canterlot Commonwealth, Spitfire’s athletic prowess and leadership abilities led her to a career in law enforcement in Equestrian City.

Sadly even busting bad guys and writing citations became less thrilling and more boring to Spitfire, despite being remarkably good at her job. It was said that some in the department were feeling she was making them look bad due to the sheer volume of arrests and convictions she was getting compared to them.

As the years rolled on, she was awarded Equestrian City’s Stun Baton of Honor, the highest commendation possible at the time. It was not long after that Spitfire was transferred to the ECSWAT, where she continued her climb in the ranks, rising to the rank of Captain. Wounded several times in the line of duty, she received three Honor Bandage Badges and finally the Commonwealth Badge of Excellence, awarded by the elected Celestial herself at the time.

As the Canterlot Disaster came and went, Captain Spitfire was part of the concentrated effort to calm the ensuing paranoia and civil unrest EC had fallen into. Enlisting the best and brightest, the squad she assembled brought order to chaos and were a vital element during the riots.

As the era of MetaCrime began to rise, Spitfire’s Wonder Squad were the first to try and beat back the new super powered crime wave. After losing many in the line of duty and nearly losing control of several sections of EC led to an new arm of ECPD being formed: J.U.S.T.I.C.E. Its purpose was to take the fight back using both cutting edge technology from private contractors and those endowed with magical powers choosing to serve.

Commissioner Luna chose Spitfire to lead the entire department. It was both a huge honor and a disappointment to the woman who’d been in the face of danger most of her life.

As the city grew and evolved, the J.U.S.T.I.C.E. charter expired and a new power, an armored special forces unit was to replace it. The trials for the new power armor were set to begin after the winner of the contract presented its first prototype: The Wonderbolt Mark 1. Spitfire leapt at the chance to be the test pilot, working hand in hand with Rare Innovations, regardless of how unthrilled Commissioner Luna was at her enthusiasm instead of letting a professional test the suit.

Now in its early stages, the new Wonderbolt Armor Mark 1 is deployed along with regular ground troops as both back up and spearhead positions to Meta Human incidents, class B and above.

And of course Moon Pearls epic reference sheet. We did a bit of reworking on her suit from the original concept. We wanted both a Rocketeer / Cliff Secourt feeling but still enough room for when the final War Machine Wonderbolt Armor is conpleted.

See ya next time. Dont forget to drop ny discord and say hi!

Phoenix Ref Sheet – 09-09-18

After the Canterlot Disaster, Sunset Shimmer, Twilight Sparkle and several others were revealed to be beings from another dimension. The later of the two were taken in for questioning and eventually allowed to become citizens of the world.

Sunset Shimmer however was never found after the Disaster and all investigations pointed towards the apparent death of the would-be despot turned reformed villain.

A master at blending in, Sunset escaped the area in shame and was convinced she was responsible for so much death and destruction. Hiding and staying low, she realized her hope to run home was gone, as the portal had been destroyed along with most of the suburb she’d called home for three years.

Like many others, she realized through trial and error she’d not been untouched by the magical wave. Her focus was able to bring her fire based magic that she could wield as a weapon or as a means of traveling.

Left alone and without friends, she traveled far and wide across the entire Canterlot Commonwealth landmass in hopes to find somewhere to just forget about what she has done, or maybe, finally settle down. Sadly she never found this peace. It wasn’t until a chance encounter led her down the road she now walks.

What happened is something she shares with few others and is best left for another tale. What is important is that, after learning a great deal of personal close quarters combat and bettering her ability to wield her powers on different levels of legality, she returned to confront the mess she continues to feel solely responsible for which created the super powered crime problem.

The epicenter of all the super powered crime was Equestrian City, the first major area to have it spring up. There she began life as Rebecca Strong, an opinionated but soft spoken cafe waitress by day. When night falls she becomes the mysterious and now much feared crime fighter called The Pheonix!

FINALE2Sunset

Moon Pearl did a super job on this one! It brought her to life in a way I never thought possible!

Pony Think Tank takes on “Dance Magic”

As the author Equestrian City, it’s no secret I’m partial to Equestria Girls. In my humble opinion, it’s got far more potential for storylines that are relatable to modern issues, not that the MLP show isn’t good at it, but it feels more real.

That and it has Sunset Shimmer. 😉 Sunset is by far the most 3 dimensional character they’ve ever made, even more so due to the fact she was, by best I can tell, supposed to be a throwaway character for the one off movie “Equestria Girls”. She turned into something must more, my adoration for her is no real secret either.

Each year, it became like a superbowl like wait for that years “Equestria Girls” movie, the best being, again in my own opinion, Rainbow Rocks.

So when I heard we were doing three shorts, immediately my hopes of a unlimited series for Equestria Girls soared, as most are aware. The Polish dubbed versions came out to give us a sneak peak, and of course then the English dubs came out, followed by the actual reveal recently on Discovery Family.

The first of which, I’ll give my two cents on now, since, well everyone and their brother, sister and mother have already posted theirs, why not me?

Dance Magic

The title and theme song are, lack luster, but I imagine it will be that way, since it’s really just prototypes.

My initial thoughts were “Oh great, they are just doing this one to burn off a song they didn’t use in Friendship Games” and thankfully, it was more amusing than just that. The feeling of familiarity came back immediately as I watched the opening, listening to all the voices I’ve come to love. I was thrilled that we were going to see Rarity do something rather than be window dressing. I’ve always thought she needed more work, thankfully, they seem to be listening recently in the main show 😛 But, I was further overjoyed by the fact that one of the biggest letdowns of the Friendship Games (one of many) was the lack of use of any of the Anti-Mane 6 they worked on hyping up and then barely got any interaction with.

This time we get to see Sour Sweet, Lemon Zest, Sugarcoat and Sunny Flare, the analogues to various Mane 6 members. Sunny Flare was nice to see, as she got one line in the movie, and oddly, by the midway point, they felt twice as fleshed out as they did in the 3rd movie.

I’m still a bit in the middle about how quickly these girls reform (it seems we’re all about reforming people, if we keep this up we’ll have no villains ;/ ) But, by the time we get to the solution of the problem in a tidy package of 22 minutes, it doesn’t even feel like the dance number (which includes a set of repeated animation, but I can forgive that for this time, it’s all proof of concept it seems for a series “Can we do it” sorta thing)

As the episodes winds down after Pinkie’s rather epic rapping, we come to the conclusion that these four of Crystal Prep are in fact now friends, despite all the hopes some had that they’d return like the Dazzlings might, later.

Overall, it’s a lovely episode, feels a bit typical. Here’s something I’ve somewhat noticed having watched them all several times in various languages. Each episode seems to be a audition in a way. This one is a typical MLP-ish episode.

  • Problem presented.
  • Solution Given
  • Speedbump.
  • Readjust Solution.
  • Epilogue.
  • Sprinkle in a song somewhere and you’re done.

The 2nd one is more an homage to Scooby Doo, although the mystery is really easy to guess, and the third one is trying to compress a movie battle AND a cross over into 22 minutes, which, well I’ll go into that later 😛

Anyway, thanks for the read, and by all means, please discuss in a civil way, I LOVE to interact and bounce ideas off.
